We have put together some early Longshot selections to sink your teeth into from the rain effected meeting at Grafton on Tuesday.
Grafton R4 #2 American Enemy 26.0 / 6.5 – deceivingly well bred type for this 1400m maiden by Americain out of a General Nediym mare, the Americain sire line has really been training on as early season 3yo’s and this one is showing similar signs on the back of finishing 2nd in a trial at the Gold Coast btn 1.8l by Ennazus who looks potentially well above average itself, they put a good margin to 3rd and the form through 3rd, 4th and 5th suggest this one is above the level required to win a Grafton maiden, also finished 3rd in a good trial prior to debut behind Star Of Harada, finished down the track on debut, total forgive run, merely adds to the value here, blinkers come off first time, ticks a lot of boxes for a 26.00 / 6.50 chance and warrants each way support at that big price.
Grafton R4 #10 Against The Clock 67.0 / 16.0 – deceivingly well bred type by Time Thief out of a Xaar mare who herself is un-raced but also a half to a stakes winner with plenty of black type close up in its pedigree, comes into this race 1st up from a spell and has done nothing in 3 career starts but hinted at ability prior to debut with a strong trial 3rd at the Gold Coast btn 2.3l by Torre Sracino, the form out of the trial stacks up strongly to suggest it is well up to winning a maiden of this level, blinkers come off first time as she stretches from 1000m out to 1400m 2nd up, big improvement expected, warrants each way specking at the massive odds on offer.
Grafton R5 #5 Murdaress 15.0 / 4.6 – lightly raced improver who comes into this having her 4th career start, 1st up from a spell after only 1 run last prep when down the track at Port Macquarie, had genuine excuses that day after a tough on pace trip under a fast tempo that resulted in a race record, put away straight after, given 4 months off since, looked a smart type on the make when breaking its maiden tag at her 2nd career start making all over 1250m at Kempton on soft going, 2nd home Svitanya came out and won next start impressively and they put a good margin 3rd to 4th to further frank the depth coming out of that maiden win, deceivingly well bred by Murtajill out of a Galileo mare who hails from a strong European blacktype family, goes around at the good each way odds of 15.0 / 4.6, definitely warrants each way support at those odds.
Grafton R6 #2 Arabian Dancer 26.0 / 7.5 – strong speed pedigree by Sebring out of the Red Ransom mare Bold Demand who herself is a daughter of blue hen producer Bold Promise who was also the top rated filly on the 90-91 2yo classifications, this 4yo gelding is 1st up into this race off a 5 month break, highly impressive breaking its maiden tag over 1200m at Port Macquarie 4 starts ago by 3l, 2nd and 3rd home have since franked the form strongly coming out of that maiden win, overall this is a fairly strong C1 for the tag on offer but at the big odds of 26.0 / 7.5 he has to be backed at such a good price with such strong form, in this up to its ears at a big price.
Grafton R6 #5 Rage Against 35.0 / 9.5 – deceivingly well bred type by Dylan Thomas out of a Last Tycoon mare, comes into this having its 10th career start and is 2nd up from a spell after finishing down the track last time out, total forgive run after a tough trip, won a trial at Armidale prior to that 1st up failure suggesting ready to hit new peaks this preparation, looked above average when making all at Armidale over 1400m to break its maiden tag at the end of last prep, put good margins 3rd to 4th that day further franking the form out of the race, draws well in the 2 alley and looks likely to stalk from better than midfield with one of the runs of the race, warrants each way specking at the massive odds on offer of 35.0 / 9.5.
Grafton R7 #10 Ceedee Prince 46.0 / 12.0 – overall this is a fairly average type of race for the purse on offer so it wont be the hardest race to win, this Flying Spur 6yo gelding is 1st up from a spell on the back of a deceivingly good close up trial 2nd to Mishani Honcho at Tamworth with Bullet Kid back in 3rd further franking the trial form, represents the astute Sue Grills yard and gets in with only 54kg after the claim for Hyosik Lee, goes around at the huge odds of 46.0 / 12.0, warrants each way support.
Grafton R8 #11 Light Motion 27.0 / 7.5 – a bit to like about this 6yo Encosta De Lago gelding, he put the writing on the wall back at the end of July coming from last over 1500m at Port Macquarie to win by a widening 1.2l margin, his 4 runs since then have been sound without overly impressing but we get the feeling he is in the right race today and gets the right conditions, he drops from 54.5kg last start to 51.5kg here and was only btn 2.4l last time out despite not getting the most favourable trip, overall its only an average type of race for the tag on offer and this one only needs luck on his side to figure at the very good odds of 27.0 / 7.5 on an each way basis, warrants each way specking.
