Followers of our site have been cheering with consistent wins recently and that was further emphasized on Tuesday when we landed the plunge on Mansab at Tamworth in Race 3 which opened at 70/1 (60/1 officially) and was backed in to start 20/1 before a brilliant ride from Chris O’Brien got the chocolates for punters.
Some will be wondering what leads us into backing Mansab. Well to start off the overall depth of the field for a 1400m $20K Maiden at Tamworth was questionable to begin with. In races of this nature where the favorite is not strong from a form perspective in our eye will always look for the value runners to beat it and Mansab fitted that bill.
Being over 1400m we were taken by the pedigree of Mansab who is by Rothesay out of an Octagonal mare. Rothesay is known for getting runners who improve as 3yo’s and being out of an Octagonal mare this was simply further emphasized. When looking into the form of Mansab it became quiet evident through his trial 2nd at Cessnock back in November 2016 (early 3yo season) that he had improved significantly coming into his 3yo season. Looking at the form of those further back in that trial added some weight to the merit of that theory. These factors gave us reason to believe Mansab was a live hope in the race.
