Another edition of our famed Late Mail segments pops its head up on Wednesday evening with coverage of the meeting from Happy Valley. Stay tuned as we update all the best bets throughout the evening for Wednesday Hong Kong racing.
Happy Valley R1 #3 Letsgofree $5/$1.9 – Happy to forgive the run of lets go free last start when too bad to be true (vetted no abs). Has since been freshened up and trialed well in the lead up to this. Yet to win a race from 12 career starts but has been racing very well in stronger Class 4 company. Two runs back when down in Class 5 company was strong through the line this course and distance when led early only to be shuffled well back approaching the home turn. He found clear room late nearer the inside and hit the line well. He will only need a repeat of that performance to give this a massive shake. He stays in Class 5 company hear and from the inside gate should get the run of the race. In a race where only 5 of the 12 runners have recorded a career win Letsgofree won’t get a better chance to break through. Ticks all the box’s and looks a strong each/way bet to kick things off at Happy Valley tonight.
Happy Valley R2 #2 Funny Buddies $20/$5.3 – Funny Buddies resumes here from a let up and is having his second start for new trainer Paul O’Sullivan. He was unlucky last start in this grade when running over the unsuitable 1000m. He jumps to 1200m here which looks ideal and should be further improved. Ideally drawn in gate 5 so should sit on the speed and enjoy a good run throughout. He has been more than competitive in tougher grade before and will only need to find somewhere near his best to be super competitive in a wide open race. He represents massive value on an each/way basis with bigger bets the place recommended.
Happy Valley R3 #4 Starlight $7/$2.5 – Struck form this track and trip last couple of starts. Impressive winner two runs back by 1.5l and was a touch unlucky last start when hit the line strong from back in the field when only beaten less than a length. Gets same conditions here and looks suited by what looks a strong tempo. In a competitive little race he looks great each/way value and will only need to hold current form to give this a shake.
Happy Valley R4 #8 Midnite Promise $8/$2.75 – Midnite Promise is rarely far from the money and looks to have found another suitable race. Worked early last start which told late when only beaten 2l. Drawn well here in gate 4 and can take up a customary forward position. Kept fresh for this which will suit and ticks all the box’s. Represents very good value on an each/way basis with the perfect run in transit.
