Late Mail UK for Saturday 3 June

A big day of racing action in the UK on Saturday with plenty of good action around to support a strong renewal of the G1 Investec Derby for 2017. We have already put together a full preview for that race to go along with our consistent Late Mail feedback right throughout the day on other support races across the UK & Ireland.

G1 Investec Derby Preview

Doncaster 1.55 #2 Waiting For Richie 3.90 & #1 Ice Gallery 9.00 / 3.20 – good confidence betting race to kick off the day with Waiting For Richie the main elect as a 3.90 chance fixed odds along with Ice Gallery which rates just below it as the only seen logical danger at the good odds of 9.60, enough depth in the betting market to back them both for a result across the race, Waiting For Richie has scope for plenty more 2nd up here for 2017 on the back of a very good 1l 3rd over this track and distance last time out, lightly tried staying prospect with plenty more to offer, ticks all the right boxes for a 3.90 top elect, Ice Gallery is also relatively lightly raced as a staying prospect having only faced the starter 10 times and he is very well bred by Galileo out of the G1 Oaks placed Danehill Dancer mare Ice Queen, his 2nd at Catterick over 12f last season and his 2nd at Ayr 2 starts ago both suggest he is well up to the level required to win a race of this nature, back with good confidence in support of Waiting For Richie for a result across the race. Basically getting 2.80 combined about a combined 1.90 chance. Excellent value and strong confidence betting race.

Epsom 2.35 #7 Laugh Aloud 2.16 – lightly raced and very well bred type by Dubawi out of the Singspiel mare Opera Comique who also got 122RPR rated Debussy, comes into this G3 contest on the back of winning a Listed contest at Goodwood by a widening 3.2l margin with good margins further back adding depth to the performance, has only faced the starter 8 times in its short career and is 3rd up fitter into this race now, still plenty more to come and only needs to produce last start Listed level to prove super hard to beat again here, we have it clear cut top rated as a 2.00 chance so the 2.16 on Betfair is decent overs about a high confidence win betting proposition.

Epsom 3.10 #4 Folkswood 4.50 – hard to go past the chances of the Charlie Appleby trained Exceed And Excel 4yo gelding Folkswood here, comes into this race having only its 12th career start on the back of a very good Meydan season earlier in the year which included a G1 2nd in the Jebel Hatta Turf over 9f, his 1st up 2nd in Group 3 company off the back of a 6 week let up 2 starts ago suggests plenty more to come, deceivingly strong 3rd last time out, progressive type who looks G2 as a minimum on the make which makes this a very winnable affair for the 4.50 chance, we have it clear cut top rated as a 2.60 chance.

Navan (IRE) 3.35 #6 Constant Comment 4.40 & #2 Escape Clause 7.60 – high confidence betting race here and enough depth in the market to back both of the top 2 rated contenders for a result across the race. We can get 4.40 about Constant Comment who rates slight infront of Escape Clause which we can get 7.60 about, they take up approx 37% of the betting market or combined odds of 2.80, we have them rated a combined 2.00 chance so very good overs exists about this high confidence betting combination. Constant Comment is bred to be high class by Fastnet Rock out of a Galileo mare and has won her last 2 on end and as a lightly tried 3yo filly having only her 5th career start offers up big scope for more, Escape Clause is by the under-rated sire Lawman and looked very good last start when beaten only 0.5l by Allography in a strong form race over 8f on this track last time out, he was strong through the line that day and offer decent scope for more getting out to this trip, back them both with good confidence for a result across the race.

Doncaster 3.40 #5 Sante 5.50 – lightly tried 4yo Dream Ahead filly having her 1st start for the 2017 season, really came of age 5th career start back end of 3yo campaign scoring by 9l at Chepstow over 7f in mid August, visually impressive that day and hard to ignore the overall dominance of the win and the form stacks up out of the race to boot, breeding suggests likely to have come on again since spelling, hard to understand why it is not favorite here but happy to take the 5.50 on offer knowing its good overs, we have it rated as a 3.50 top elect.

Navan (IRE) 4.10 #6 Butoolat 6.60 – very well bred lightly raced improver by Oasis Dream out of the Dubawi mare Handassa who herself was a 2l LIsted winner from only 6 career starts, 3rd up from a spell now fitter stretching out to a mile for the first time, go on 1st up effort 2 starts ago when 3.7l 5th to easy 3l winner Sorelle Delle Rose over 6f at Naas, good form refs come out of the race through those finishing around it and also through those finishing further back suggesting this one is well above the level required to win such a weak 3yo Handicap as it faces here, also carries very good scope for more, may well end up being one of the best bets from a value perspective all day if it lands considering the very good odds of 6.50 on offer, we have it rated as a clear cut top rated 3.50 chance.

Musselburgh 4.55 #1 Showdaisy 11.00 / 2.90 – deceivingly good speed pedigree by Showcasing out of a Komiate mare, 1st up from a spell after form tapered off last 3 starts tail end of last preparation, go on 2 runs prior to that winning at Southwell followed up by a close 2nd to Dynamo Walt at Newcastle, if it can find that level again here it will prove very hard to hold out here, every chance of hitting that level still being relatively lightly raced and proven to go well fresh, gets conditions to suit here, ticks a lot of boxes for an 11.00 / 2.90 chance as an each way prospect, back each way with a decent degree of confidence.

Epsom 5.15 #4 Shraaoh 3.30 – very hard to go past the chances of the Sea The Stars 4yo gelding Shraaoh here, comes into this race having its 1st start of the 2017 with this the 1st up target looking for a soft kill before bigger handicaps beckon over the next few months, looked a high class type on the make breaking its maiden tag 4 starts ago by 6l at Newcastle, franked that with a high merit 2nd to Dal Harralid at Goodwood over 12f 2 starts ago, those 2 runs suggest is a G2 quality stayer on the make as a minimum, sure to have come on again since spelling being a Sea The Stars gelding entering its 4yo year, excellent value as a clear cut top elect at 3.30, qualifies as a good confidence NAP bet.
